Sandra S. Whittaker was born in Augusta, Georgia, the first daughter of a
family whose Georgia and South Carolina heritage can be traced back for
generations.
For most of her married life she lived in Ocala, Florida, where she worked in
the banking industry for nearly 20 years. In the summer of 2000, she and her
husband returned back to their Augusta roots and Sandra began to follow her
artistic passion of painting the homes and countryside indigenous to the
South.
'My work reflects my love of the South. I paint landscapes and scenes that
depict our way of life. Most of my paintings include buildings. I feel that
the homes, shops and barns of the South give us windows to the souls of the
people who reside and work there.
The natural colors of ochre, sepia, burnt sienna and muted shades of pastels
are the ones I see when I view the fields and houses in and around the
South.
My family heritage, the love of the land and its history, are consistent
themes portrayed in my work"
